This course is designed to provide training to entry level workers who want to work in residential aged care facilities, community care, nursing homes, community based organisations and hospitals.

Description
This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

Assessment
Assessment for this qualification includes underpinning knowledge questions, and work-based projects. It is also based on completion of assignments, Practical tests and/or examinations for each subject. This qualification has a work placement requirement. All students are required to complete a placement within the aged care sector.
The assessments you will complete during your placement, including the observation when your trainer visits you in the workplace, are probably the most important part of your course. This is where you are required to demonstrate that you can apply the theory in the real world.

Course Content
Thirteen (13) units must be completed: 7 core units and 6 elective units. The list of units of competency have been selected by ACC as being appropriate combination that can provide valid, reliable, fair and flexible assessment and is deemed suitable for industry required outcomes.

Mandatory Work Placement

The CHC33015 – Certificate III in Individual Support requires learners to complete a mandatory work placement in an approved care facility. This requires a commitment of 120 hours work placement during the course duration. This work placement will be organised by Australian Careers College where students will be provided with orientation, supervision and will have the opportunity to fully develop their skills in the actual workplace. Where the student has already identified a work placement opportunity, Australian Careers College will engage with the nominated workplace to determine its suitability and will organise an appropriate work placement agreement. Australian Careers College need to ensure that students have access to appropriate supervision arrangements, orientation, workplace safety and a scope of work which is consistent with the unit of competency requirements.
